As well as Chenny's education above he has studied at The Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand (Production Sound, 2005). While at MEC he gained a Certificate of Merit-Distinction in Clarinet year 3, Recorder year 2, Cello year 1 and Music theory. He has been keeping musically active since 1997 when he started out learning at MEC's Glenfield Centre, students find Chenny an encouraging and knowledgeable teacher, that really understands what it is like to be a student. During his four years learning with MEC, Chenny really loved all the different instruments he learned and also participated in the Wind Band and recorder Ensemble. From 2001 he developed a passion for Guitar.

Chenny participated actively in music in his high school years in events like Rock Quest, open evening performances and Westlake Jazz Big Band prize giving performances. His current passion of music continues with his long standing friends in a four piece originals rock band (since 2004) where they actively practice, create new music, record and develop themselves. They are now a well established rock band in the “We Rock Club” of Auckland University and actively Gig at various bars in Auckland City. Teaching Guitar and inspiring priceless values through music education of discipline, motivation and confidence has been a long held philosophy of Chenny's who really loves to teach!

His passion for teaching is rooted in a commitment towards making a difference for all of his students. "I just want give them a lifelong skill and see that they have a passion for something in their everyday lives," he says. Chenny believes music can help people in dealing with the challenges they face in everyday life.

"Everyone has their problems in life and I feel music is a way of tuning out of them," he says. "When you're feeling down about something, you can write about it with your music."

Outside of teaching Chenny performs with his band Split Second and recently recorded an EP. "I'm always keeping musically active. I enjoy the buzz of being on stage and being put on the spot, it gets you out of the classroom."

He hopes to one day have his own music school where he can help others get into music and teaching. "Everyone loves music and if you love music why not do it as well by learning an instrument?"
