Linda’s musical journey started at the age of 6 with nothing more than a suggestion from a family friend to audition for the Music and Ballet school in Baghdad, Iraq. The blessing of being accepted into this school opened many doors for Linda and provided her with many opportunities. Following three years of learning theory, and singing, she chose to the flute as her primary instrument. Throughout her 7 years at the Music and Ballet School, she had great opportunities to observe and learn from great musicians, some of which were part of the National Iraqi Symphony Orchestra. Being a student at the Music and Ballet school provided Linda with opportunities to perform in school events, orchestras and choirs representing both the school and the country.
In 2008 she continued her education at the National Music Conservatory in Amman, Jordan. During this time, she participated in many youth performance events and orchestras including the Open Jordanian Youth orchestra, founded and led by Mrs. Agnes Bashir. She was also a musician in the Fountain of Love Choir which opened many doors into performing throughout Jordan Israel and Syria.
During her time at the National Music Conservatory and prior to moving to New Zealand, she completed grade 8 Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) performance exam - that was when she was sixteen. In New Zealand (2012), she joined the North Shore Youth Orchestra and performed with them for 2 years. She is currently an active musician at the St Thomas More and St. Addai church choirs.
“I believe that there is always room for learning and growing and the next step for me is to complete my diploma-ABRSM after completing my master’s degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Massey University.
Playing the flute is not just a hobby, it is part of who I am today. Learning music has provided me with great opportunities, helped me to grow, and to meet and be inspired by many talented people. It brings me joy to be able to open such doors for my own students and to provide them with the means to express themselves.”
